Manila to Tagaytay via SLEX: Toll Fee, Best Exit and Route Tips

Manila to Tagaytay via SLEX route guide

Tagaytay is one of the most popular weekend drives from Metro Manila, and most people get there on SLEX. From Magallanes, the Class 1 toll to the Sta. Rosa exit is ₱199, and after that the climb to Tagaytay is on toll-free roads. Here is how the route works, what it costs and how to avoid the worst traffic.

The usual route from Manila to Tagaytay

Enter SLEX at Magallanes or Alabang

Drivers from Makati, Manila and Pasay usually enter SLEX at Magallanes. If you live in the south of Metro Manila, Alabang is the more natural entry point and the fare is lower.

Exit at Sta. Rosa

The Sta. Rosa exit leads straight to the Sta. Rosa–Tagaytay Road. From the toll plaza, the road climbs through Silang toward the Tagaytay ridge. There are no more tolls after you leave SLEX on this route.

Planning for the round trip

The return fare is the same as the trip out, so a Class 1 round trip from Magallanes costs twice ₱199. Make sure your Autosweep balance covers both legs before you leave.

The CALAX alternative

How the CALAX route works

Instead of exiting at Sta. Rosa, you can leave SLEX at Mamplasan and take CALAX (Cavite–Laguna Expressway) toward its Sta. Rosa–Tagaytay and Silang exits. This skips part of the busy Sta. Rosa–Tagaytay Road.

What to know before choosing it

CALAX uses Easytrip, not Autosweep, so you need both stickers. You also pay the CALAX toll on top of the SLEX fare to Mamplasan (₱187 for Class 1 from Magallanes). On busy weekends the time saved can be worth it.

Beating the traffic

Best times to leave

Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons are the busiest times on both SLEX and the roads up to Tagaytay. Leaving early in the morning, or travelling on a weekday, makes a big difference.

Watch for holiday rushes

Long weekends, Holy Week and the Christmas season bring heavy southbound traffic. Check traffic apps before leaving and consider the CALAX route if the Sta. Rosa exit is backed up.

Before you go

Check your vehicle class and fare

Use the SLEX toll calculator to confirm the fare from your exact entry point. Vans and SUVs are Class 1, while buses and trucks pay Class 2 or Class 3 rates.

Know your exits

The SLEX exits list shows every exit in order, so you know when Sta. Rosa or Mamplasan is coming up.
